Mary Keenan lectures widely throughout Ireland, undertaking talks at meetings of gardening, horticulture and floral societies, clubs and groups. She offers a diverse range of talks which are designed to be enjoyable as well as informative on all aspects of gardening. Talks are illustrated using slides mostly taken in Gash Gardens. The following is a sample list of available lectures:
“Gash Gardens – a tale of dreams, challenges and a passion for plants” – Gash Gardens is an inspiring and acclaimed plant enthusiasts garden that has passed from father to daughter – this talk is a deeply personal and unique insight into the story of the garden and its plants.
For the love of trees” – many people don’t plant trees because they think they don’t have room. This talk highlights Ireland’s wonderful heritage of trees and looks at the many and diverse benefits of trees in the garden and the wider landscape, how to plant and care for tree, and suggests suitable trees for different design purposes and garden situations.
“Hello spring” – there is lots to do to get ready for the season ahead and this talk looks at garden tasks for spring and what plants are providing interest in the garden at this time.
“The autumn garden” – just when you think the garden is winding down for another year, this talk highlights plants to extend the seasonal interest and keep the show going well into autumn.
“The wonder of winter” – the garden need not be a bleak scene during the winter months and this talk explores how to achieve liveliness, colour and interest in the winter garden.
“Making the most of shade” – almost every garden has a shady spot. This talk explores gardening in the shade and looks at it as an opportunity to grow a wider, more diverse range of plants.
“Desirable shrubs for flowers, foliage and other effects” – shrubs are the backbone of a garden providing structure, scale and permanent effects. This talk highlights a selection of highly garden worthy shrubs for a variety of garden situations.
